It is an interesting time for community safety. Actual rates of crime (chargeable offences) are down, but calls for service are up. Police officers are being trained and expected to respond to mental health crises, opioid overdoses, family disputes, and municipal by-law infractions. With a duty to respond and 24/7 availability, people call the police when they don’t know where else to turn. These trends are likely to continue as the rates of social disorder
