Regional District of Nanaimo to Undertake a Boundary Study for Electoral Area F

Organization Name: Regional District of Nanaimo

Location: Nanaimo

The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) has received approval and a $45,000 grant from the Government of British Columbia’s Ministry of Municipal Affairs (Ministry) to undertake a boundary study for Electoral Area F (EA F). This builds on the momentum and support of the governance and services study that was completed in May 2023. The boundary study for EA F will determine possible boundary scenarios within EA F and identify some of the implications of the proposed boundaries on any future incorporation. The public will have opportunities to provide input on the potential boundary options to decide whether there is a desire to go ahead with a more in-depth incorporation study.

In 2022, the Ministry contributed funding for the governance and services study in EA F to document service delivery and governance arrangements, engage with local community members to understand their concerns and interests and identify potential future governance and service delivery options for the area.

The Electoral Area F Governance and Services Study Committee made up of community residents, oversaw the study in collaboration with an expert team of study consultants and presented their final report to the RDN Board in May 2023. The report recommended undertaking an incorporation study for EA F. The RDN Board then asked for approval and funding from the Ministry for an incorporation study for EA F.

As this is a technical study, an external consultant will be conducting it. There will not be a study committee of Electoral Area F residents.
