What can you do to help residents to get where they need to go if you do not have the residential density nor data to inform decision making?
The Alliance for Innovation is hosting a virtual event on January 23, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 pm ET entitled “OnDemand Transit: Powered by Partnership with Uber.”
In 2015, as the Town of Innisfil, Ontario’s rapidly-growing population was creating increased demand for public transit service. Examining traditional options from a Transit Feasibility they determined those would be too costly and service would be limited.
That’s where innovation comes in! Innisfil looked for a transit system that was on-demand, affordable and could service the needs of all members of the community. From there, they partnered with Uber to develop Innisfil Transit; an on-demand, shared ride platform powered by Uber and subsidized by the Town. This ridesharing transit service was launched on May 15, 2017 and continues to operate in Innisfil as the first community in the world to partner with Uber for its transit system. Attend this session and learn about how they did it!

- Think differently: Re-framing the problem to find an alternative and potentially more effective solution.
- Take the leap: Be willing to accept risks in order to realize the benefits of an alternative solution.
- Just try it out: Need to try something first – if even initially on a trial basis – in order to see if it works.
- The “how to” insights on how Innisfil brought this innovative partnership to life.
It doesn’t need to be perfect! The willingness to be imperfect will help unlock the testing of creativity and innovative solutions.
