Organization Name: Regional District of Nanaimo

Location: Nanaimo

The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) invites Electoral Area F (Area F) residents to participate in Round 3 of public engagement for the Area F Official Community Plan (OCP) Update. Round 3 involves gathering feedback and discussing the draft OCP, which reflects Round 2 input, to refine and finalize the content. Area F residents can provide their feedback and learn how the OCP will guide growth and reflect community values in Area F by completing the survey between June 27 and  September 15, attending two in-person community meetings in September and visiting the project webpage.

The community meetings will be an opportunity for residents to review project materials, ask questions, have one-on-one conversations with RDN staff and submit feedback in person. The RDN will share the meeting dates and other details with the public as soon as they are confirmed. Following this third round of engagement, the OCP will be made into a draft bylaw which will go through a public hearing process and further consideration by the RDN Board.

Area F includes the communities of Coombs, Hilliers, Errington, Meadowood, Whiskey Creek and surrounding rural areas. The Electoral Area F OCP was adopted in 1999 and establishes the community’s vision for the future, including objectives and policies which are used to guide community planning and land use management decisions in the area. Since the OCP’s adoption, Area F has experienced a 50 per cent increase in population to approximately 8,200 residents. The RDN initiated the OCP Update in 2019 to address emerging challenges resulting from this growth.

For more information and to complete the online survey, submit questions and review the draft OCP, visit getinvolved.rdn.ca/areafocp. The survey is open until 4:30 p.m. on September 15, 2023. Hard copies of the survey and materials are available by request to Area F residents who do not have access to a computer. Area F residents are encouraged to register and subscribe to the Area F OCP Update Get Involved page to receive project updates and provide feedback.
