Start a Career in Niagara Falls
Niagara Falls Ontario had 88,071 residents in 2016. The city swells with seasonal workers every summer, and then shrinks smaller again each winter. This tourist hotspot is situated on the western bank of the Niagara River, right across from Niagara Falls, New York. City Council consists of eight councillors and a mayor in elected positions that are contested every four years. Council is responsible for policy and decision making, monitoring the operation and performance of the city, analyzing and approving budgets and determining spending priorities. In January 2019, GO Transit debuted a two-way, weekday commuter service from Niagara Falls station (Ontario) to Union Station (Toronto) as part of their Niagara GO Expansion. The full expansion project is expected to be completed by 2025. The City of Niagara Falls is working toward Bike Friendly designation and is providing more resources to encourage active transportation. Agriculture is important here too; this is the heart of Canada’s second largest fruit belt and the center of its most important wine region. Industry left the city in the 1970s because of economic recession and increasing global competition in the manufacturing sector. Tourism has since become the city’s most important revenue source. Niagara Falls, Ontario is a more popular destination than Niagara Falls, New York, due in part to the better view of the Horseshoe Falls from the Canadian side of the river.
