Wastewater Operator OIT
Position Overview
In accordance with all applicable federal, provincial and municipal acts and regulations, responsible for the repair of storm and sanitary sewer infrastructure including sewer mains, service connections, manholes, catch basins, inlet / outlet structures and grates, storm water management ponds, and any other appurtenances necessary for the operation of a complete wastewater collections system.
Qualifications and Experience
• Grade 12 graduate or equivalent.
• Hold and maintain a valid Wastewater Collection OIT “Operator in Training” License and obtain a Wastewater Collection Operator Class 1 License within 12 months of acquiring the OIT License.
• Have ability to complete 40 hours of yearly training in accordance with the Ministry of Environment.
• Working knowledge of sewer collection fundamentals.
• Eligible for training in Confined Space Entry.
• Valid Class “G” driver’s license, in good standing.
• Eligible for training in Confined Space Rescue.
• Ability to use power and hand tools and small motorized equipment (ex. Pumps, compressors, Jack Hammer, General Power Flusher, Generator and Chainsaw in accordance with the Ministry of Labour Guidelines, Occupational Health & Safety Guidelines and City policies and procedures.
• Ability to read maps, blueprints and diagrams
• Ability to work in a computerized environment and proficient using various software programs including: Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Arc GIS.
• Must be available for overtime, shift work assignments 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, to assist the on-call operator as required consistent with the provisions of the collective agreement.
