As a technician I (310T mechanic), you’ll be part of a skilled fleet services team responsible for maintaining a diverse municipal fleet, from heavy-duty diesel and construction equipment to specialized vehicles. Your expertise will directly support frontline operations across the city.

What You’ll Do

  • Inspect, diagnose, repair, test and maintain automotive, diesel, mechanical and construction equipment.
  • Perform complex troubleshooting and complete repairs independently.
  • Coordinate and oversee the daily activities of a helper.
  • Operate municipal and construction equipment for testing and diagnostic purposes.
  • Maintain accurate service records.
  • Use fleet management software and other digital systems.
  • Interpret service manuals and requisition required parts.
  • Ensure full compliance with the City’s Safety Manual and applicable provincial legislation.

What You Bring

  • Grade 12 diploma.
  • Valid 310T Certificate of Qualification.
  • Valid Class G driver’s licence with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Class DZ licence.
  • Strong hands-on mechanical repair experience (diesel experience considered an asset).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain propane and ozone certifications.
  • Master Mechanic tool kit (minimum $2,000 value).
  • Strong documentation, communication, and computer skills.
  • Commitment to safety, teamwork, and high-quality workmanship.

Compensation and Premiums

Base Rate: $43.19 per hour (effective April 1, 2026)

Additional premiums:

  • Afternoon shift premium: $1.50/hour
  • Sunday shift premium: $2.90/hour
  • Outside mechanical work: $0.60/hour
  • Premium for specific vehicles: $3.79/hour
  • Tool allowance: $604.59 annually
  • Work boots subsidy: $350 annually
  • Driver’s medical exam reimbursement: $140 upon licence renewal

Hours of Work

  • 80 hours bi-weekly
  • Shift work required (days and afternoons)
  • Some night shifts required during winter season
