Survey Technician 2 – Construction
Reporting to the Survey and Road Rehabilitation Supervisor, the incumbent will:
- Collect, download, edit and manipulate raw topographical survey data
- Calculate surveys related to project grading, co-ordinate construction layout, horizontal and vertical curves and traverse adjustments
- Perform physical duties such as maintaining and operating the survey van, driving wood survey stakes,carrying heavy survey equipment over distances and removing maintenance hole covers
- Train the Survey Technician 1 and students to ensure the survey team works well together efficiently, safely and produces accurate work
- Have advanced knowledge of Total Station and Trimble GPS units
- Be responsible for Daily Vehicle Inspection Reports
- Maintain survey equipment and order survey supplies
The successful applicant will possess:
- A two-year post-secondary Civil Engineering or Survey Technician diploma or in a related discipline
- Registration or eligible for registration as a Technician with O.A.C.E.T.T.
- Two years of work-related experience in preliminary engineering survey and all aspects of construction layout
- Knowledge and understanding of mathematical theories (co-ordinate geometry, advanced trigonometry, horizontal and vertical curve calculations), total stations, theodolites and levels, Fleet Maintenance and servicing processes, survey request process, Design Specifications and Standards for Regional Services, MTO Construction Manual, Ontario Provincial Standard Specification Manuals, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Experience working with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel), AutoCAD Civil 3D, and Softdesk applications
- Excellent verbal and written communication, teamwork, contract administration, mathematical, and organizational skills
- A valid Ontario Class G Driver’s Licence
CUPE 1764 Salary Grade 5
This position is with Salary Grade 5 and will be paid at the following hourly rates:
– Start: $37.47 – Six Month: $39.55 – Job: $41.63
Conditions of Employment
Proof of education, qualifications and any other job bona fide requirements will be required prior to start date. A current Driver’s Abstract will also be required.
