Recreation Facilities Supervisor
The Town of Goderich requires a Full-Time Recreation Facilities Supervisor. This position is responsible for the operation of the arena and pool at the Maitland Recreation Centre, and outdoor recreation locations which consists of Bannister Park washrooms, soccer pitch and baseball fields, Columbus Park Pickleball and Basketball Courts, Victoria Park Tennis Courts, and related special events.
The Recreation Facilities Supervisor will be responsible for scheduling and supervising staff managing preventive maintenance programs and ensuring the operation and maintenance standards are met. This position is the first point of contact and promotes a positive working relationship with user groups and service clubs who use and/or rent the ice and outdoor recreation venues.
Under the direction of the Community Services and Operations Manager, the successful applicant will perform the following duties and responsibilities:
- Provide leadership to department staff in order to achieve high standards of well-maintained systems and equipment.
- Handles the advertising contracts for rink boards, field banners and other related sponsorships.
- Manages third party contracts.
- Manages the coordination of operations and maintenance of outdoor sports fields and associated facilities to meet various users needs.
- Maintain the pool’s water chemistry within the Ministry of Health legislation requirements, policies and guidelines and manually tests water samples regularly.
- Coordinate and completes minor arena and pool system repairs (i.e., replacing filters, regular upkeep, use of chemicals, equipment, etc.)
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation and Ontario Recreation Facilities Association (ORFA)
- Coordinating minor maintenance repairs of departmental equipment
- Develop and/or implement preventative maintenance schedule for outdoor sports fields and equipment.
- Be the point of contact and exceptional communicator for user groups relating to booking of recreation facilities, including ice, field, special event bookings, etc.
- Complete other duties as assigned by the Manager and/or designate.
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- Knowledge of building systems (ice, pool, etc.), maintenance requirements, and housekeeping standards
- Minimum five (5) years’ experience in recreation facility operation
- Minimum three (3) years’ experience in a mid-Management position
- Post-secondary education in recreation management, or related field considered an asset
- Basic and/or Advance Refrigeration Certificate considered an asset or obtain certification within the first six (6) months of employment
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO) designation considered an asset, or obtain certification within the first six months of employment
- Certified Ice Technician (CIT) designation considered an asset, or obtain certification within the first year of employment
- Exceptional leadership skills
- Marketing experience considered an asset
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency in general computer operations with the capability to effectively navigate the Perfect Mind booking system.
- Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s Licence with a clean driver’s abstract
- Clean Vulnerable Sector Check
Rate of pay for this position is $38.80 – $46.19 per hour (2025 Rates). Based on a 40-hour work week with the core operating hours of 5AM – 11PM, Monday through Sunday, this position will be required to work overtime and unusual hours to respond to the recreation facilities emergencies.
