Job Profile
There is a temporary opening for Recreation Coordinator – Special Events within the Recreation & Culture Division, Community Development Department available immediately. Reporting to the Manager of Special Events, this temporary position will be responsible for the development and coordination of direct municipal special events. The successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties:
What you will be doing
- Develops, coordinates and supervises a variety of municipal events of varying scales, types and at various locations.
- Acts as a municipal liaison for community led events, including attending committee meetings as required.
- Assisting in maintaining the division’s social media presence, developing and maintaining comprehensive sponsorship packages for municipal events.
- Works with Communications Team and Sponsorship Coordinator to develop and implement individualized marketing strategies for municipal events including various social media platforms, print, signage and radio.
- Participates in policy development, implementation, and evaluation.
- Prepares, forecasts, and monitors budget.
- Coordinating the recruitment, scheduling and supervision for applicable seasonal staff/volunteers.
- Identifying trends and evaluating current special events to ensure a high degree of innovation and quality of service.
- Generates alternate sources of revenue and funding opportunities to support direct-delivered events. Identifies grant opportunities; develops and prepares grant proposals.
- Coordinates the selection and permit processes for all special event vendors; ensures health and safety practices are enforced.
- With support from the Manager, respond directly to inquiries from the public and staff in a positive, courteous, and timely manner.
Education
Two-year College Diploma in Recreation and Leisure, Event Management, Public Relations, Marketing, Business Administration or a related discipline.
Experience and Knowledge
- A minimum of 1 to 2 years’ experience in event planning, sponsorship development, partnership enhancement, working with volunteers/volunteer committees and facilitating/supervising same.
- At least two (2) years of experience in producing indoor and outdoor special events, with attendance up to 5,000, preferably in a municipal environment.
- You will demonstrate a thorough working knowledge of sponsorship concepts and strategies with strong presentation and public speaking skills.
- Political acuity, deductive reasoning skills, excellent problem-solving skills, conflict resolution confidence, creativity for identifying and delivering unique activations and trends and awareness of culture and diversity are critical.
- Proficiency in computer and office applications, including Word, Excel, FMW and Volgistics is an asset.
- Possession of a driver’s license and current Standard First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, Automated External Defibrillator certification.
Your compensation
This position is within Grade 8 of the inside workers union Salary Schedule and has an annual salary range of $72,800 to $77,386.

Location of position
This position is located at Cambridge, City Hall, 50 Dickson Street, Cambridge, Ontario.
Hours of work
The current hours of work are in accordance with the Inside Worker’s Collective Agreement and may be scheduled between Monday to Sunday, seven (7) hours per day, thirty-five (35) hours per week, from 6:00 am to 11:00 pm as established per the Collective Agreement.
