Job Profile
Reporting to the Manager of Operations – Parks and Arenas there is an opening for a Parks Operations Technologist. This position will be responsible for the following duties:

What you will be doing

  •  Review site plans, subdivision designs, and engineering drawings to identify operating impacts or potential concerns from an operating perspective.
  • Review invoices and validate they align with services and work delivered by contractors.
  • Responsible for overseeing and executing minor capital projects and annual service contracts for parks and trails.
  • Meet with staff to discuss, review, and collaborate on upcoming projects.
  • Review the schedule of work with the bookings team in Recreation to ensure schedules do not conflict.
  • Review costs and identify if budget forecasts are needed related to contracted services and work with management and finance accordingly.
  • Review all development applications (site plans, development applications) to identify operating impacts in the development application process to ensure growth needs are identified in the budget and align with new developments.
  • Review all new park or replacement park capital projects, identifying operating concerns and impacts, ensuring they are identified through the capital budget and adjusted before acceptance of the new facilities.
  • Leads in the development of standard operating procedures for Parks, Forestry, and Horticulture services.
  • Coordinates Operations, Asset Management, Planning, Engineering Development, and Engineering to ensure that there is a smooth transition from construction to maintenance on a well-planned timeline.

Education
Three-year college diploma plus certification in Landscape Design or Certified Engineering Technologist certificate
Landscape Design or Certified Engineering Technologist (CET)

Experience and Knowledge

  •  A minimum of three (3) years of experience in Parks and Recreation setting, or a related field. Previous municipal experience would be an asset.
  • Landscape Design or Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) Certificate through the Ontario Association of Certified Technicians and Technologist (OACETI)
  • Ontario Driver License – Class G

Valid G driver’s license.
Worker Health and Safety Awareness Training Certificate from the Ministry of Labour

Your compensation
This position is within Grade 9 of the Inside Workers Union salary schedule, the salary range is $77,477- $82,337. We offer a comprehensive benefits package and are an Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS) employer.

Hours of work
The current regular hours of work are in accordance with the Collective Agreement, however, currently, we are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (35 hours per week). Monday to Friday, with occasional evenings as required.
