Parks and Recreation Supervisor

Located along the beautiful shores of Lake Ontario, conveniently in the 401 corridors between Toronto and Kingston, the Municipality of Brighton is a lower tier municipality in the County of Northumberland with a population of almost 13,000 people. Brighton is a settlement on the traditional territory of the Mississauga Anishinaabeg, now of Alderville. The Municipality is home to Presqu’ile Provincial Park, a gem on Lake Ontario’s north shore. The Municipality of Brighton is seeking a dedicated and experienced Parks and Recreation Supervisor to lead the delivery and supervision of operations and maintenance programs across our recreation facilities, parks, and cemeteries. This role ensures high-quality service standards and oversees staff, projects, and facility inspections.
The Supervisor is responsible for the effective coordination and oversight of daily operations within the arena and seasonal outdoor facilities. This includes providing daily customer service to residents and patrons of all parks and recreation spaces and managing mechanical systems, equipment maintenance, and contracted services. This role provides daily oversight of operational staff, ensuring successful project completion, employee development, and effective employee relations. The Supervisor ensures compliance with all relevant legislation, including health and safety, accessibility, and emergency protocols. Additionally, the position contributes to strategic planning initiatives and serves as a backup to the Manager, as required.
The ideal candidate will have post-secondary education and 3 years’ experience in the Parks and Recreation field. Along with completion of First Aid/CPR, they will have completed their Certified Ice Technician and be working towards or be eligible to obtain their Certified Arena Refrigeration Plant Technician designation. A minimum of three years of relevant experience is required in areas such as arenas, parks, cemeteries, or marinas. Strong organizational, communication, and team management skills are essential, as is knowledge of relevant legislation. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and work order systems, a valid Ontario driver’s license, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team are also required.
Total compensation for the Parks and Recreation Supervisor includes an annual salary between $92,958 to $105,072 commensurate with qualifications and experience, a generous benefits package covered 100% by the Municipality, flexible work hours, and participation in the OMERS pension plan.
