The Legislative Communications Coordinator provides expertise to guide Woodlands County’s communications plan and administers its legislative services. A member of the Senior Management Team, this role ensures the development of communications strategies, creates strategic messaging, and develops visual identity standards, with the support of the Communications Assistant. This role provides legislative, procedural, and administrative advice and services including researching regulatory and legislative requirements to ensure the County’s actions remain compliant.

Under the general direction of the Director, Corporate Services, this position supports the advancement of the County’s Strategic and Business Plans and regularly collaborates with other departments. The role also supports internal work related to intermunicipal and provincial relationships and may collaborate directly with the CAO when required to support strategic priorities.

Key Responsibilities 

Communications

  • Lead and implement County-wide communications strategies.

  • Oversee branding, digital content, social media, and media relations.

  • Support Council and departments with messaging and public information.

  • Supervise the Communications Assistant and manage external communications support.

Legislative Services

  • Maintain and improve bylaw, policy, and records systems.

  • Coordinate Council agendas, meeting minutes, and ensure MGA compliance.

  • Administer elections, censuses, and serve as Commissioner for Oaths.

  • Lead the County’s records management program and oversee legislative tracking.

Strategic & Organizational Support

  • Collaborate on ICFs, external relations, and interdepartmental projects.

  • Act as Public Information Officer during emergencies.

  • Provide back-up support to the Executive Assistant and CAO as needed.

Qualifications

Must-Haves

  • Diploma or degree in communications, public administration, or related field—or equivalent experience.

  • Experience in municipal/public sector legislative or administrative roles.

  • Strong writing, editing, and legislative documentation skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with FOIP and the MGA.

Assets

  • Knowledge of iCompass, Adobe Creative Suite, CMS tools.

  • Experience with records management systems and strategic messaging.

  • Strong initiative, attention to detail, and problem-solving mindset.
