J1222-1201 Traffic Engineer Exempt, Full Time

The Transportation Division of the Engineering and Regional Utilities Department develops long-term capital plans, polices, master plans, bylaws and processes development applications that guides the growth of the City according to the City’s Official Community Plan. This Division will help guide the transportation infrastructure investments in the City and achieve Council’s vision for the City “…to be the Hub of the Fraser Valley.” This Division will also help shape the future of the City and is viewed as a builder of community that will attract and retain people to live, work and play in the City of Abbotsford.
We are excited to be looking for a talented person to fill this key position in our Transportation team as a Traffic Engineer, reporting to the Director of Transportation.
As a Traffic Engineer, you will support the implementation of the Transportation Master Plan and will apply your specialized knowledge and skills in traffic engineering, including microsimulation and traffic signal timing optimization, safety and operations. You will also be a forward thinking transportation professional with knowledge of pedestrian and cycling best practices, familiarity of complete streets design concepts, transit planning, and transportation demand management strategies. You are proficient at writing technical reports, as well as engaging in consultation with engineering consultants, community groups, members of the public, and Technical Advisory Committees. You will provide expertise in developing the City’s traffic signal network, including planning for improved traffic signal coordination and further development of the City’s traffic network model. You will provide support to Development Engineering through your knowledge and experience in evaluating Multimodal Transportation Impact Assessments and Development Applications, and prepare and present reports to Committees and Senior Management. Knowledge of Synchro and Simtraffic microsimulation software and Centracs/Econolite system software is considered an asset.
You possess a Civil Engineering Degree and a P.Eng. with a minimum of 5 years related experience in traffic or transportation engineering. You may also have several years’ experience with traffic signal and active transportation projects, and management of capital projects, preferably within a municipal environment.
