Dryden is a vibrant, outdoor-oriented community nestled on the shores of Wabigoon Lake in northwestern Ontario. Due to a retirement, the City is seeking a visible, hands-on, and strategic leader to serve as its next:
Director of Public Works
Reporting directly to the CAO and overseeing a team of 53 staff, the Director will lead the planning, execution, and maintenance of Dryden’s core municipal infrastructure, including roads, parks, cemetery, water, wastewater, stormwater, fleet, and facilities.
As Director, you’ll join a supportive, forward-thinking leadership team during a pivotal period of infrastructure renewal. The City has secured significant capital funding, prioritized investment through 2026, and is undertaking major roadwork, water system upgrades, and facility modernization projects. You will play a central role in shaping Dryden’s future through efficient, transparent, and accountable delivery of these critical public works programs.
The Role:
- Provide strategic, operational, and financial leadership for all Public Works functions
- Deliver multi-million-dollar capital programs on time, on budget, and to high standards
- Oversee compliance with all relevant Municipal, Provincial, and Federal legislation
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement
- Lead grant-funded projects and maximize infrastructure funding opportunities
- Enhance systems integration across asset management, GIS, maintenance, and SCADA platforms
- Serve as a trusted advisor to Council, the CAO, and community stakeholders
What You Bring:
- A Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation and a degree in civil or related engineering
- At least 10 years of progressive municipal experience, including 5+ in senior leadership
- A strong technical foundation and the judgment to navigate complex regulatory and policy environments
- Demonstrated experience in capital project delivery, staff development, and stakeholder engagement
