The City of Greater Sudbury is seeking a Director of Children and Social Services to lead a dynamic division dedicated to delivering high-quality services that support families and individuals across our community. Reporting to the General Manager of Community Well-being, you will oversee the full management and operations of the Children and Social Services Division. This includes strategic planning, budgeting, policy development and program delivery for Ontario Works and Children’s Services. You’ll play a key role in shaping services that align with local priorities and provincial legislation, while ensuring exceptional customer service outcomes.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the development and execution of the division’s annual business plan
  • Serve as the statutory Service Manager for Early Learning and Child Care and Ontario Works Administrator
  • Oversee financial planning, provincial subsidy claims and resource management
  • Liaise with provincial and federal ministries, community groups and stakeholders
  • Ensure compliance with legislation including the Ontario Works Act and Child Care and Early Years Act
  • Drive performance measurement, policy innovation and continuous improvement
  • Champion employee engagement and customer satisfaction

What You’ll Bring to the Role

  • A university degree in Social Sciences, Public or Business Administration
  • Minimum eight years of senior leadership experience in a large, unionized organization
  • Minimum four years of experience in leading a division or function related to Children and/or Social Services
  • Deep knowledge of social services legislation, funding models and community needs
  • Strong strategic thinking, communication and conflict resolution skills

Salary and Additional Benefits

The range of pay for this position is $148,790.88 to $175,227.57 per annum. We offer the flexibility to work remotely on a part-time basis, along with a supportive work environment that promotes work-life integration.
