Location: This position is eligible for a hybrid work model. When attending an event or meeting in person, your primary office location will be based out of City Hall, 426 Brant Street, Burlington, Ontario. Work location is subject to change at the discretion of the City due to operational demands.
Position Overview:
Reporting to the Director, Digital Platforms, Architecture and Cyber Security, the Digital Enterprise Architect (DEA) is accountable for developing, maintaining, and leveraging the enterprise architecture and enterprise solutions architecture across the City. The DEA will be a key influencer in driving and enabling the City’s digital transformation, technology modernization and optimization.
Responsibilities:
The DEA’s responsibility includes but is not limited to:
Partnering with stakeholders across City departments to advise, influence, understand business goals/requirements, take in the long-range plan, help shape the overall program/project portfolio, and translate all inputs into a vision of cohesive technology standards and platforms that integrate into a sustainable/scalable architecture that serves business digital strategies. The DEA will have responsibility for making recommendations clearly linked to the organization’s strategic goals. To perform effectively, the DEA must deliver continuous and measurable technology improvements that propel the business forward while eliminating legacy systems to help reduce technical complexity and operational costs, all in accordance with our strategy.
Strategic architectural planning to connect the City’s business and technology strategies to execution, ensuring the City has a robust, agile and cost-effective information and technology environment. Typical duties include:
-Develop target digital architectures, standards, reference architectures and guidelines.
-Establish and evolve roadmaps to implement the target architectures.
-Monitor industry trend and translate to the context of the City, research “art of the possible”, identify and lead the evaluation of emerging technology platforms.
Solution Architecture oversight and service. Typical duties include:
-Work with business partners to map out solution components to solve their needs proactively.
-Solution architecture oversight for projects/initiatives.
-Support architecture governance and related process.
-Identify application rationalization and technology consolidation opportunities.
The responsibility and related activities require engagement with stakeholders from all departments across the City. The scope of the work covers business, data, application, and technology domains.
Requirements:
You have a post-secondary degree with a strong emphasis on Information Technology, plus minimum of seven (7) year progressive work experience in a complex IT environment. Must have extensive knowledge and experience in digital solution architecture area, including architecture roadmap development, reference architecture documentation, solution architecture design and implementation. Knowledge and experience in application, technology, data and security domains are required.
The ideal candidate is also expected to have competencies in strategic thinking, strong leadership in impacting and influencing, stakeholder management and census building, and decision making in often vague situations. The levels of audience of the work include executive, management, and technical professionals, hence the ability to communicate effectively to different levels of audience is a key required skill. Business consultancy skills are a must.
The individual in this role should have a strong background in digital solutions architecture rooted in digital solution delivery. The DEA is also expected to have a results-oriented mindset and foster an environment of continuous improvement.
Knowledge and certification in Enterprise Architecture frameworks and methodologies, as well as experience in Enterprise Architecture Management platforms like LeanIX would be considered assets.
Salary: $100,375 – $125,469 (Grade J)
