Brantford is a single-tier municipality with a full range of services and a gross expenditure budget in 2025. Our mission is to deliver quality programs and services to the citizens of Brantford through a commitment to responsible leadership and sound fiscal management.
Reporting to the Chief Administration Officer, the Commissioner must be an excellent leader with outstanding organizational skills to oversee the Public Works Commission which currently includes the departments of: Operational Services, Environmental Services, Engineering Services, Fleet & Transit Services, and Parks and Recreation. The role requires an in-depth understanding of municipal operations, asset management and financial planning, and is responsible for directing the development of departmental work plans and associated operating and capital budget forecasts. Facilitating the development of key departmental initiatives including policy creation, best practices and standards, divisional organization, and strategic resource optimization are also key functions of this position.
The ideal candidate must be able to create and sustain an organizational climate that promotes quality customer service, continuous improvement, and teamwork in all departmental operations. The role requires a strategic planner who is able to build positive relationships and earn the confidence of City leaders and staff as well as external stakeholders. A consummate teambuilder, the ideal candidate will have a proven track record of collaboration with public and private agencies and staff; the ability to see the big picture; and a strong knowledge of municipal sector services.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Applicants shall possess a degree in Engineering or equivalent, combined with a relevant post graduate degree and a minimum of 10 years senior management experience in a municipality or equivalent experience in a role that is similar in both size and scope in the private sector.
- IMS 300 certification or equivalent (ICS 300) is considered an asset. Subject to course availability, certification must be achieved within their first two (2) years of employment.
WAGE/SALARY RANGE: $89.50 to $111.87 per hour (based on a 35 hour work week) plus benefits.
