Mayor Dave Barrow, on behalf of members of council, is pleased to announce the appointment of Mary-Anne Dempster as Richmond Hill’s City Manager, effective immediately.
Ms. Dempster has been serving as the city’s Interim City Manager since February 2020. She originally joined the City of Richmond Hill in September 2017 as Commissioner of Corporate and Financial Services. Since that time she has transformed the Richmond Hill Public Libraries through a partnership with the city to save over $1 million while enhancing front line services; led the development of the workforce planning framework combining training and development, performance management, and succession planning; championed the city’s ongoing technological transformation; and most recently led the city’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I have had the pleasure of working with Mary-Anne over the past several years and I have come to know her as a dedicated and experienced public servant with a clear commitment to the city, its staff, and our residents. Council is confident she brings the right skills and vision to the role and together, we will work to move the city forward,” says Mayor Barrow.
“I am honoured to have the opportunity to continue our great work here at Richmond Hill. I’d like to thank council for their support, particularly through the recent challenges brought about by COVID-19. I am intensely proud of the efforts of our dedicated staff who provide valued services to the public every day and I am excited about our possibilities for the future,” says Dempster.
Previous to her work at Richmond Hill, Ms. Dempster served as the Corporate and Financial Services Director for the City of Kawartha Lakes and as an internal auditor and consultant with the Province of New Brunswick. She is a Chartered Professional Accountant and holds a Graduate Degree in Business Administration with a focus on human resources and marketing.
