The District of Summerland has announced that Graham Statt has been appointed by council as the new Chief Administrative Officer.
Statt is a proven leader with more than 20 years of provincial government experience with most of that time spent in senior executive positions. His primary role is the Assistant Deputy Minister, Pharmaceutical and Supplementary Benefits Division with the Ministry of Health. However, since March, he has been leading Alberta’s Emergency Operations Centre for COVID-19, and is currently appointed as its Incident Commander.
“One of Council’s most important responsibilities is to select a suitable CAO for our community,” said Mayor Toni Boot. “We believe that Graham will make an excellent addition to Summerland. We look forward to working with Graham and are confident he has the leadership and skills to continue advancing Summerland and achieving council’s strategic priorities.”
Graham brings a wealth of attributes from his previous executive roles for the Ministry of Environment, as well as the Ministry of Tourism, Parks and Recreation, and the Ministry of International, Intergovernmental and Aboriginal Relations. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology as well as a Master’s degree in Anthropology with interdisciplinary focus in the Faculty of Law, focusing in Aboriginal law.
“My wife and I are looking forward to moving to Summerland,” Statt said. “I am excited to work with staff and council, and to use my knowledge and leadership skills to accomplish great things together.”
Moving with his wife from Beaumont, Alberta, Graham’s first official day will be January 4, 2021. Karen Needham, Director of Corporate Services, is Acting CAO until then.
