Why urban areas continue to need parks

by LOMBARDI P
Published in February 2018 - Page 37

Urban parks are dynamic areas and critical to the social, economic, and physical wellbeing of Ontario municipalities. As early as the 19th-century, Frederick Law Olmsted changed how cities view parkland with the idea that public parks should exist and be encouraged. Urban parks provide many benefits, including recreational opportunities, preservation of natural environments, provision of green space, reduction of the urban heat island effect, acts as a centre of the community, and urban stormwater management.
