Well, this is awkward. Two weeks before “Regional roadblocks to strong mayors” (June 2023) was published, exploring how strong mayor powers might play out in a regional context (and especially in the context of Peel Region), we got a definitive answer.

I think it is safe to say that, for many, simply dissolving the region wasn’t the outcome they foresaw. One week later, the bill that no one saw coming received royal assent.
