Section 20 of Ontario’s Line Fences Act needs to change. This legislation has become a burden for municipalities and conservation authorities, as it requires them to pay 100 percent of the fencing costs for all former rail lands that they have acquired. Section 20 states in part:

Where land that was formerly used as part of a line of railway is conveyed in its entire width by the railway company … to the
