Rural broadband access remains an issue, pandemic or not

Various federal governments have long struggled to deliver fair access to broadband to Canadians. Back in 2001, the federal government created the National Broadband Task Force. The goal of the task force was to map out a strategy for ensuring that broadband services were available in every Canadian community by 2004.

Let’s just say that things haven’t quite worked out that way.

It wasn’t until 2019 that the federal government budgeted almost $2 billion to
