Records and archives: impact of Ontario's new Municipal Act
On January 1, 2003, a new Municipal Act took effect in Ontario. Among the many changed provisions are those for record keeping and archives. The most significant change from the previous Act is that municipal archival records may no longer be transferred to the Archives of Ontario.1 Municipalities will now have to retain and preserve their own archives or strike agreements with an archivist.
