It is hard to overstate the importance of the establishment of the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) to the Canadian identity.
The last spike completing the railway was driven in 1885, linking Canada from east to west. It was called the “National Dream,” and its completion led to British Columbia entering Confederation and the opening of the west to development.
