Gord Hume’s article on “Municipal Time Bombs” in the July 2011 issue of Municipal World provides a timely reminder of the financial challenges facing Canadian municipalities. He correctly points out the threat posed by an unsympathetic federal government facing its own financial difficulties. But, the article (and the quotes from the various mayors) focuses almost exclusively on the need for federal and provincial financial support if municipalities are to be saved from a “terrifying scenario”
