Mississauga's longest serving councillor

Councillor Frank McKechnie passed away on August 22 after a long battle with heart disease. Mississauga Mayor, Hazel McCallion, described him as a “dedicated politician and a loving family man,” who will be remembered as “first-class” by all who knew him.

McKechnie was born in Glasgow, Scotland and settled permanently in Canada in 1950. He entered politics in 1958 when he was elected to the former Toronto Township council. He later served as councillor for
