Claudette Millar, the feisty first mayor of Cambridge and founding member of Waterloo regional council, died on February 10, 2016 in Guelph, Ontario.

She was 81 and had entered hospice care three days earlier, having received a diagnosis of stomach cancer in late January.

Millar burst onto the political scene in 1969 as the voice of protest, entering the mayor’s race in the rural town of Preston only two weeks before the vote and scoring
