Jeffrey Copenace is Anishinaabe and chief of the Ojibways of Onigaming First Nation. His community is located in Kenora District in northwestern Ontario, about 450 kilometres west of Thunder Bay and 170 kilometres from the Manitoba border.

Copenace has had an extensive career in the Ontario and federal governments and was a senior aide to Prime Minister Paul Martin. He also worked with Indigenous political organizations, including Grand Council Treaty #3 and the
