Job Summary

The stormwater drainage system is one of the largest asset classes in the City of Mississauga and includes a variety of stormwater management facilities, erosion control works, storm sewer outfalls, etc. As part of the City of Mississauga’s Stormwater Assets & Programming team, you will be responsible for performing technical duties in support of asset management, program delivery and capital planning, primarily focused on field assessment and the collection and maintenance of stormwater asset data critical to making informed lifecycle decisions (e.g. maintenance and capital works).

Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager of Stormwater Assets & Programming and with functional direction from Stormwater Drainage Coordinators, the successful candidates will be responsible for:

  • Leading the completion of stormwater field assessment programs for a variety of stormwater infrastructure including creeks, ponds, outfalls, water quality sampling, etc.
  • Preparing detailed inspection reports including photos and mapping and investigation of stormwater inquiries to document conditions
  • Preparation of work requests (in Infor) and liaise/coordinate with Works Operations & Maintenance division to track work progress
  • Support the recruitment of seasonal staff (e.g. co op students) and training to deliver field assessment programs; support delivery of Health & Safety practices and maintenance of field equipment
  • Organize and support the maintenance of various asset inventory databases (e.g. Excel, Access, GIS tools, Infor Public Sector)
  • Utilize GIS tools to prepare and maintain mapping for inspections, capital planning, inventory updates, and prioritize stormwater maintenance activities
  • Support Coordinators with resolving service requests in Infor and technical review of internal/external projects
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Skills and Qualifications

  • Technical diploma or university degree in the field of Civil, Water Resources or Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science or Studies, or related field with technical courses related to the
    work or an equivalent combination of relevant training and experience
  • Minimum of two (2) years experience in engineering field including knowledge of inspection, design, operation and maintenance practices related to drainage infrastructure within a municipal setting or a comparable environment with similar scope, scale and accountability
  • Eligible to receive or obtained designation in good standing as a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.)
  • Demonstrated asset management knowledge, training and/or certification
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple competing tasks
  • Ability to interpret survey information, engineering drawings, specifications and details of municipal infrastructure (e.g. plans, alignments, cross sections, profiles, grading, topographic, etc.)
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access)
  • A valid Class G driver’s license, possession of a clean driving record and have the ability to travel within Mississauga
  • Working knowledge of Microstation, AutoCAD or ArcGIS would be an asset

Hourly Rate/Salary: $80,567 – $107,426

Work Model: This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring employees to be onsite in the office 3 days per week and allowing remote work for the remaining days. Specific in-office days may be set by the team or department to support collaboration and business needs.
