Reporting to the Manager of Long Range Planning, the Planner, Long Range Planning will assist in a wide variety of research and policy development projects relating to the City’s Official Plan, Neighbourhood Block Plans, Community Improvement Plans, brownfield remediation and redevelopment, heritage conservation, development monitoring and growth management. The Planner will undertake work related to policy development and implementation, conduct research and surveys, assist with community and stakeholder engagement programs, respond to inquiries from development proponents and the public, and on occasion, provide comments on development applications and present Planning reports to City Council and/or Committees.

This position will involve time working at City Hall and time working from home, to be set out in a Work From Home Agreement.

Qualifications

  • Applicants are required to have a post-secondary degree in Planning, Geography or a related field;
  • Be a full member, in good standing, or be in the process of becoming a full member with the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI);
  • A minimum of 2 years’ planning policy experience, preferably in a municipal planning environment, is preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Planning Act, the Provincial Policy Statement and contemporary planning principles and practices gained through academic training, work experience, and continuous learning;
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal;
  • Outstanding team player with a strong customer service attitude;
  • Be a self-starter with the ability to work independently within a multi-disciplinary environment;
  • Be able to organize and manage short and long term priorities and objectives to meet

WAGE/SALARY RANGE: $40.44 to $50.55 per hour (based on a 35 hour work week) plus benefits.
