Who are we looking for?
Reporting through the Supervisor, Water/Wastewater, and under the direction of the Lead Hand, Water/Wastewater, the Operator – Water/Waste Water is responsible for performing infrastructure maintenance programs for water distribution system, waste water/storm water collection systems, sewage pump stations, and storm water retention facilities. Operators must be competent persons as per Provincial regulations. Operators will, as required, be appointed OIC Operator-In-Charge to oversee worksite.
How do I qualify?/h3>
- Minimum Grade 12 diploma required (to obtain MECP certificate) and demonstrated previous experience in the infrastructure maintenance field including operating and maintenance programs, associated materials and supplies, health and safety regulations.
- Ministry of Environment Certification in Class 1 Water Distribution
- Commitment to obtain Class I Waste Water Collection within 12 months from date in position in accordance with Provincial Regulations and continue to attend internal and external Director approved training sessions.
- Confined Space Entry Certification, Basic First Aid and CPR Certification or attained within probationary time period.
- Ability to work in confined spaces including chambers and trenches, pump stations wet wells, maintenance holes with depths between three and sixty feet, the associated characteristics of the same and unusual conditions.
- Class “G” Driver’s License in good standing with “DZ” endorsement.
- Good communication, collaboration, coordination, organizational, problem solving and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public, staff, suppliers, contractors, other departments/levels of government, and utilities.
- Ability to operate all water/waste water specialized industrial/heavy equipment and ability to operate gas detector, front end loader and become familiar with operating combination sewer cleaner truck and other equipment used in Department.
- Flexibility/availability to work schedule and unscheduled overtime and/or respond to “after hours” problems as required.
- Ability to work in unfavourable conditions such as extreme heat/cold, snow, rain, mud, raw sewage and to obtain results in a given time.
- Ability to adapt to changing technology.
- Due to the nature of the contacts of this position a Police Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the Town is required.
Salary: $69,540 – $86,925
