Reporting to the Development Manager, the Municipal Inspector is responsible for inspecting Town and development construction and municipal field activities within the Engineering Branch of the Engineering and Public Works department.  This includes performing field inspections for all development related construction including site plans and subdivisions; site compliance, erosion and sedimentation control inspection; conducting inspections of municipal services and grading in accordance with drawings and Town standards; field inspections of departmental capital works projects; review of letters of credit and recommendation for reductions; coordination of engineering plans/reports review for plans of subdivision and site plan approvals as well as Official Plan amendment and Zoning By-law amendment applications; providing comments in preparation of development agreements; responding to homeowner enquiries regarding development and capital construction projects; assists with reviewing engineering studies and master servicing plans and lot grading plans; participating in the development of engineering design standards and best practices, all aspects of Fill and Site Alteration applications and the administration of the Fill and Site Alteration By-Law;, participates in preparation of branch budget and business plan.

The preferred candidate will have a college diploma in Civil Engineering Technology; eligibility for membership in the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians & Technologists (OACETT) at the Technologist level, and at least five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in a municipal and/or land development engineering environment. A Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) designation with OACETT would be an asset, as well as a Certified Inspector designation for Sediment and Erosion Control (CISEC) and successful completion of Advanced Water Main and Sewer Inspector courses. Other requirements include:

  • General knowledge of applicable standards with respect to construction and development agreement process, erosion and sedimentation control, site alteration operations.
  • General knowledge of O.Reg 406/19 On-Site and Excess Soil Management.
  • Knowledge of applicable municipal, provincial and federal regulations regarding standard construction practices, and occupational health and safety guidelines.
  • Excellent understanding of various types of engineering drawings including legal surveys, plan & profile drawings, grading plans, drainage area plans, etc.
  • Ability to exercise judgement and communicate effectively with contractors, consultants, Town staff, the general public, Council members and external agency staff.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written. Proficiency using the full Microsoft Office suite.
  • Excellent organization skills.
  • Availability to attend evening/weekend meetings or events and to investigate/trouble shoot on operational issues or community concerns, as required.
  • Thorough working knowledge of tender practices in a public sector environment.
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” drivers’ licence in good standing.

Salary Range: Band 6: $80,717 – $94,962
