The Town of Amherstburg is currently recruiting for a dedicated, customer focused professional to fill the full-time position of By-Law Enforcement Officer.
Job Summary
Reporting to the Manager, Licensing and Enforcement, the By-Law Enforcement Officer is responsible for ensuring the By-laws of the community are complied with and for investigation of alleged offenses of municipal By-laws and other legislation. The By-law Officer negotiates compliance with property owners and tenants through verbal and written communication, and proceeds with legal action in accordance with applicable legislation and regulations.
Qualifications and Requirements
Applicants are required to have completed at minimum, a 2-year college diploma in law or a related field with one-year experience in applying and enforcing laws and/or provincial or federal statutes, or an Ontario Secondary School Diploma with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in applying and enforcing laws and/or provincial or federal statutes, using judgment, dealing with the public and providing evidence in court. Must obtain Property Standards Certification within a reasonable time of hire and then maintain membership in good standing with the Ontario Association of Property Standards Officers. Successful completion of Municipal Law Enforcement Officers’ Association’s basic training course is an asset. Must have a valid class “G” driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Terms
The regular work week is 37.5 hours per week, consisting of 7.5 hours daily, Sunday through Saturday inclusive and includes a thirty (30) minute unpaid lunch period. The By-Law Enforcement Officer may be assigned split shifts where required. This position has an hourly rate as described in the current Collective Agreement.

Salary
The wage range for this full time, union position is $35.11 to $38.61/hour.
