The Town of New Tecumseth is looking for an Automated Speed Enforcement and Traffic Engineering Coordinator to join our rapidly growing team.

Reporting directly to the Manager, Development Engineering, this position is primarily involved in the development, implementation and monitoring of the Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) program. This position will also assist with other traffic initiatives on an as needed basis, which may involve all aspects of the identification, initiation, design, review and implementation of municipal traffic and transportation infrastructure related to development, capital projects and municipal needs.

How you contribute to our organization:

• Assists in the development, implementation, relocation plan and monitoring of the Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) Program.
• Arranges updates to the Town’s By-laws and roadway signage to ensure that posted speed limits and Community Safety Zones are in alignment with the Town’s By-laws.
• Manages external consultant or service contracts including contracts for the installation of ASE equipment, roadway signage, and other traffic infrastructure.
• Monitors the installation of ASE, traffic and transportation infrastructure to ensure conformance with design drawings and specifications.
• Gathers various traffic, pedestrian, and cyclist volume counts, turning movement counts and speed data. Performs calculations and prepares summaries, statistics, and inspection reports.
• Collects, monitors, and analyses data to select candidate ASE locations and to evaluate the performance of the ASE program, as well as traffic control systems, elements and devices. This involves conducting research, surveys, investigations, inspections, and collecting traffic volume and speed data.
• In consultation with the Manager, undertakes and coordinates the peer review of Traffic Impact Studies for new developments. Also undertakes and identifies long and short-term needs of the Municipality’s traffic and transportation network through the coordination of studies and issuance of Request for Proposals (RFPs), to facilitate Municipal Class Environmental Assessments (MCEAs), Master Plans, etc.
• Prepares Requests for Proposal (RFP) and Requests for Quotation (RFQ) documents. Participates in selection of RFP and RFQ awards. Coordinates and reviews the work of consultants hired by the Town to undertake ASE, traffic and transportation related studies, initiatives, works and services.
• Prepares reports to Council in keeping with the department’s practices with respect to timelines and completeness, on matters such as ASE updates, community safety zones, speed limits, and other traffic initiatives.
• Acts as the Town’s representative and liaison with the public, property owners, stakeholders, utilities, consultants, internal departments, Council, and other levels of government, in a professional and respectful manner, on matters relating to the Town’s traffic engineering projects, including obtaining the necessary approvals as required.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

What you bring to the team:

• 3-year College diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, with an interest in Traffic and Transportation Engineering Technology or Land Development.
• Associate member of Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologist (OACETT) or Engineer in Training (EIT).
• A minimum of one year of relevant experience including co-op placements in traffic engineering and/or automated speed enforcement is preferred.
• Familiarity with geometric design principles (i.e. TAC Geometric Guidelines) and Ontario design standards (i.e. OPSS) and client specific standards and requirements (i.e. MTO) would be an asset.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD/Civil 3D; Microsoft Office is an asset.
• Familiar with applicable Municipal and Provincial regulations.
• Familiar with Ontario Traffic Manual (OTM), Traffic Association of Canada (TAC) Design Guidelines, and other applicable industry guidelines and their application.
• Excellent written communication skills in order to author comments, letters, memos and reports to internal and external stakeholders, the general public and Council.
• Ability to work independently and in an interactive team atmosphere
• Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation.

Salary: $66,990.11 – $83,742.30 plus employer paid benefits and OMERS pension plan
Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday
Location: Town’s Administration Centre in Alliston, Ontario
Start Date: August 5, 2025
