The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the Director, Transportation, this role is responsible for leading the Town’s transportation engineering functions to support high-quality, cost-effective, and timely service delivery. You will shape the future of Caledon’s transportation network, ensuring its alignment with the Town’s strategic priorities and growth. You will be responsible for overseeing transportation planning, development review, traffic operations, active transportation, transit services, and public safety initiatives.
As the Manager, Transportation Engineering, you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:
- Manage the Town’s Transportation Master Plan, Active Transportation Plans, Transit Strategy, and Traffic Calming Strategy
- Lead Environmental Assessment studies and establish transportation policies for development applications
- Oversee traffic operations improvements, including traffic signals, signage, crossings, and calming measures
- Manage transit services in coordination with regional partners and oversee funding and service planning
- Provide technical guidance to staff and other departments, and lead consultant-directed studies
- Prepare Council reports, presentations, and lead public engagement efforts
- Lead recruitment, performance management, mentorship, and development of assigned staff
- Collaborate on capital and operating budgets and oversee procurement and financial tracking
- Represent the Town at Ontario Land Tribunal hearings and public meetings as a subject matter expert
The Ideal Candidate
We are seeking a strategic and collaborative professional with a post-secondary degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Transportation Engineering and Planning. Our ideal candidate has a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, including 3 years in a supervisory or management role within a municipal or consulting environment.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated knowledge of transportation planning, transit, traffic safety, and development review. We are seeking an individual with superior leadership skills, a demonstrated ability to manage multi-disciplinary teams, and excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) is required. PMP certification and experience as an expert witness at OLT (formerly LPAT) hearings will be considered assets.
The successful candidate for Manager, Transportation Engineering will be required to work a flexible schedule, including in the office, remotely, and after hours as required.
This position offers a salary range of $135,329.15 to $169,161.44 plus a competitive benefit package.
