Location
This position will be located at the Region of Durham’s Whitby/Oshawa depot at 825 Conlin Road, Whitby, Ontario.
Vehicle and Equipment Trainer
Reporting to the Training Officer, the incumbent will:
• Keep accurate and confidential records related to vehicle and equipment training
• Monitor the Region of Durham’s Commercial Vehicle Operator Registry (CVOR) and make recommendations on corrective action
• Be a recognized signing authority for the Ministry of Transportation to perform licence upgrades, renewals, testing drivers/operators and training
• Monitor and maintain expenditures related to the approved training budget
• Research, develop, design, and implement hands-on comprehensive training programs
• Train employees on various vehicles and equipment
• Develop, implement, promote, and audit safe vehicle and equipment work practices and programs
• Assess, evaluate, and determine the outcomes of training initiatives, including in-cab assessments and vehicle refresher.
• Assist in accident investigations and provide recommendations on preventative action initiative as required
The successful applicant will possess:
• Grade 12 diploma coupled with specialized courses relevant to the position.
• Ministry of Transportation (MTO) Signing Authority for Driving Certification Program (DCP) for DZ and AZ licence
• About 5 years of related experience
• Knowledge of and experience in providing training for Commercial Vehicle Operator Registration (CVOR),Ministry of Labour, Health and Safety Act and related regulations, and the Environmental Protections Act
• Knowledge of Heavy and Medium vehicles and construction equipment and tools
• Knowledge and experience providing training on pre and post trip Inspections of equipment and vehicles
• Strong facilitation, presentation, training, and education experience with a focus on adult learning techniques and industrial workplace environment
• Effective decision making, negotiation, problem solving, and verbal and written communication skills
• Experience with various computer applications such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, OneNote, Outlook) as well as Workforce Scheduling Software, Adobe, and Peoplesoft.
• A valid Class AZ licence in good standing
• Ministry of Transportation Fleet Drivers Trainer Certification is an asset
• A Certificate, Diploma or Degree in Adult Education would be an asset
CUPE 1764 Salary Grade 6
This position is with Salary Grade 6 and will be paid at the following hourly rates:
– Start: $43.59 – Six Month: $46.01 – Job: $48.43
Conditions of Employment
Proof of education, qualifications and any other job bona fide requirements will be required prior to start date. A current Driver’s Abstract will also be required.
