This article summarizes a larger technical research project entitled “Are Municipal Budget Cycles Political? Evidence from Ontario, Canada,” which appeared in State and Local Government Review, vol 55, no. 4.

First, this article summarizes the literature on whether political budget cycles exist at the municipal level. Second, it summarizes research on whether political budget cycles exist in municipal governments in the Province of Ontario.
