Sheilagh O’Leary is no stranger to recognition. She is an award-winning photographer, filmmaker, and art educator. She has also been a community volunteer in St. John’s, Nfld., for more then three decades. First elected to city council in 2009, O’Leary has served as deputy mayor since 2017.

O’Leary is a nature enthusiast, intersectional feminist, and a mother of three. She is also Municipal World’s 2024 Women of Influence in Local Government Award honouree.
