The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) Board approved community grants for 14 organizations across the region at the June 13, 2023, board meeting. The value of the community grants awarded for the spring 2023 intake totals $69,252 and will be used for a variety of community-focused projects. Community grants help registered non-profit organizations deliver social programs and services that serve a local community or provide a regional benefit.
Spring 2023 Community Grant Recipients
- Arrowsmith Agricultural Association: Removal and replacement of a concrete walkway: $4,000
- Broombusters Invasive Plant Society: Chipping, tools, safety vests, signs and administration costs: $1,200
- Cedar United Church: Upgrades to the building to meet fire regulations and space for a childcare program: $5,853
- Errington War Memorial Hall Association: Replacement of the 15-year-old heat pump and air handler: $4,000
- Connective Support Society: Contribute to a rent bank for loans to community members who need assistance with their monthly rent: $10,000
- Jonanco Hobby Workshop Association: Purchase of batting for quilts that are donated, signs for fundraising events, and emergency replacement of furnace: $4,500
- Nanaimo Foodshare Society: Purchase of gardening and cooking equipment and covering the cost of one youth each week in the summer camp: $5,890
- Nanoose Community Services Association: To offer participants fresh fruit, vegetables, and a dozen eggs under the Food Share Program: $6,000
- Parksville Seniors Activity and Drop-In Centre: Purchase of a new laptop to be used for accounting: $950
- People for a Healthy Community: Purchase of GERTIE bus passes to be distributed to low-income members of the community: $3,300
- Royal Canadian Legion Mount Benson Branch 256: Phase 2 washroom renovation infrastructure renewal and accessible upgrades: $5,853
- Royal Canadian Legion Seaview Centennial Branch 257: Purchasing and installation of a new PA system in the lounge and hall: $5,853
- Stephen’s United Church: Community Meals: Groceries and supplies needed to keep the program running: $6,000
- The HOPE Centre (Verstraete Evangelistic Association): Purchase and installation of heat pumps to replace the old air conditioners: $5,853
