The road safety audit: an introduction

Highway safety in Canada has traditionally been addressed through application of relevant guidelines and standards, and through identification and treatment of high accident locations (black spots). These activities are an important part of a complete road safety strategy, but need to be supplemented with other techniques to ensure that safety is being managed properly. The Road Safety Audit (RSA) is a new road safety tool to help municipalities achieve this goal.
