Ontario's new Municipal Act: an overview
On December 12, 2001, Ontario’s new Municipal Act 2001 was passed, the first major overhaul of the Act since it was first passed into law 150 years ago. Although most provisions of the new Act do not come into force until January 2003, certain new powers found in sections 478 and 486 are now in effect.
