Privacy protection obligations of Ontario municipalities
Since the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. M.56 (MFIPPA) took effect in 1991, Ontario municipalities have been obligated to protect the privacy of individuals and required to adhere to detailed statutory provisions established to achieve that protection. While freedom of information requests, exemptions and the access process under Part I of that Act seem to attract greater notoriety and attention than the Act’s privacy provisions in Part II,
