Susan M. Gardner is Executive Editor of Municipal World, where she researches, writes and speaks on sustainability issues and frameworks for the municipal sector. She holds a Masters of Public Administration in Local Government from the University of Western Ontario, and is a member of the Smart Growth Canada Network Advisory Board.

David Noble is the founder and principal of 2degreesC, a consultancy that supports client leadership and innovation in sustainability and health. He is an associate of the International Institute for Sustainable Development and a research associate of the Centre for Urban Health Initiatives.

Aiden Abram is a consultant with 2degreesC. Aiden has been consulting on climate change, water, and youth engagement work. Aiden brings skills and experience from six years of community leadership roles, and his formal education in earth science and international development.

Elisabeth Arnold is the Director of the FCM Centre for Sustainable Community Development. Prior to serving as an Ottawa city councillor from 1994 to 2003, she worked as a community developer. Elisabeth holds a Masters in Urban and Regional Planning from Queen’s University.

Bill Beamish recently retired from the Town of Gibsons after 37 years in public service. He continues to work as a consultant to local government, and is interested in climate change mitigation and adaptation as it affects small coastal communities in British Columbia and elsewhere.

Lyle A. M. Benko is President of L*A*M*B* Environmental and Educational Consulting (Inc.) and currently Vice-Chair for the City of Regina’s Green Ribbon Committee. He was elected as Co-Coordinator for the UN Regional Centre of Expertise Saskatchewan. Lyle serves on several boards at the local, provincial and national level that deal with environmental and sustainability issues.

Alex Boston was the David Suzuki Foundation’s Senior Climate Policy Analyst and a British Council Scholar at the University of Oxford’s Environmental Change Institute. He currently leads the Holland Barrs Planning Group’s local government climate program.

Trevor Dixon Bennett is a consultant with 2degreesC. He joined the team in 2007, bringing a rich perspective from his intensive studies on climate change in Canada’s North, complemented by his study and travel experiences in Iceland and Greenland.

Devin Causley holds a Masters of Applied Environmental Studies in Local Economic Development and a Bachelors of Environmental Studies in Planning from the University of Waterloo. He is a town planner by trade and a full member of the Canadian Institute of Planners. Devin currently works for the Federation of Canadian Municipalities as Senior Capacity Building Officer on climate change, energy and water issues. His contribution in Chapter 3 was developed on the basis of research and personal work experience.

Andrew Cowan is a Senior Manager at the FCM Centre for Sustainable Community Development. Previously, he was the Director of Climate Change for the Province of Manitoba and the Environmental Coordinator for the City of Winnipeg. Andrew holds a Masters in Natural Resources Management.

Clive Doucet has degrees in Urban Anthropology from the Universities of Montreal and Toronto. He’s worked as an urban activist all his life, starting with the Stop Spadina Movement in Toronto when he was an undergraduate student in Toronto. He has written professionally in the field of urban affairs, as well as plays, novels, memoirs, and poems. His latest book is Urban Meltdown: Cities, Climate Change and Politics as Usual. He is married with two grown children and is now a grandfather of three.

Louis Drouin obtained his Masters in public health in 1978 and has specialized in community medicine since 1982. He is an associate professor in occupational and environmental health, and is currently the head of the urban environment and health sector of the Montreal public health department.

Sarah Eaton completed her BSc (Hons) and MSc in Earth Science at Memorial University of Newfoundland. Her interest in global climate change resulted from her Masters work with Canadian SOLAS (Surface Ocean Lower Atmosphere Study). She is currently working as a geologist with Crosshair Exploration and Mining in Labrador.

Michael Evans is an Edmonton-based strategic communications and public policy consultant with a particular interest in municipal environmental and sustainability issues. He has steered several public engagement strategies in the environmental realm.

Anne Golden, Ph.D., C.M., has been President and Chief Executive Officer of The Conference Board of Canada since October 2001. Previous to that, she served as President of The United Way of Greater Toronto for 14 years. Dr. Golden is the author of numerous publications on public policy issues.

Geraldine King is Manager, Environmental Initiatives, Engineering Department, City of St. John’s, where she is responsible for promoting environmental awareness, and fostering activities that encourage environmental protection and enhancement in the city. Prior to her work with the city, she worked for the Province of New Brunswick in the Department of Environment.

Norman King obtained his MSc in epidemiology in 1978 and has been working in public health since then. He now works with the Montreal public health department, and his major fields of interest include indoor and outdoor air quality.

Tom Kosatsky, MD, is a Montreal-based community medicine specialist. He maintains a clinical practice in occupational and environmental medicine, and conducts research in environmental health for the Montreal public health department. During 2004, he was engaged as epidemiologist to the WHO European Centre for Environment and Health in Rome, with responsibilities in the area of climate change and health.

Caroline Larrivée is an infrastructure specialist with Ouranos, a research consortium on climate change. She studied Urban Planning at the University of Montreal.

Luc Lefevre obtained his Master’s in toxicology in 1988 and since then his been working with the Montreal public health department. He is now the assistant coordinator of the emergency bureau and his major fields of interest are the emergency preparedness and response.

Dan Sandink, M.A., is Research Coordinator at the Institute for Catastrophic Loss Reduction. Through his research, he has authored numerous reports and articles on urban flood risk perceptions, and risk management and climate change adaptation.

Guillaume Simonet is an impacts and adaptation specialist with Ouranos. He recently began a PhD in Environmental Sciences and Sociology at Université du Québec à Montréal and Université Paris X on adaptation to climate change issues.

Edward Willett writes a weekly science column and is author of more than 30 books of both fiction and non-fiction, including several on science and engineering topics for both children and adults.
