The City of Vernon has been considered a traditional municipality. The aging population is a sign that the direction has typically been dominated by that lens and formed by traditional values. This city of 40,000 does not have a population base that mirrors the rich tapestry of diversity, such as that found in Toronto or Vancouver. However, it does have a desire to build on the indicators of change (such as the 2017 multicultural RespectFEST)
