Why Local Government Matters

Local government is a vital factor in the social, economic and political structure of society. Some politicians, without requiring careful cost evaluation, misguidedly seek to expand, amalgamate and annex other areas to create a larger local government structure that more clearly matches their egos. Wise local government participants, elected, appointed and volunteers, focus on the community itself, keeping local issues in clear perspective. When a local government is successful, it enjoys the confidence of the community, reflecting the needs and ambitions of the population, contributing materially to the growth and benefit of the local economy.
