PUBLIC WORKS FOREMAN

Known as the “Hub of the Peace”, the Village of Rycroft is located in northern Alberta, Canada, 68km north of Grande Prairie and 7km east of Spirit River. The main industry is agriculture, with retail, oil, transportation, and education also contributing to this area’s economy. With a population of 638, Rycroft serves a surrounding trading area of approximately 5,500.

Rycroft is a friendly village with a relaxed and community minded atmosphere; with amenities and services for young and old alike; and a positive forward looking attitude. Rycroft is an inviting location to live, to visit, or to do business.

The Village of Rycroft is seeking a leader to take on the role of Public Works Foreman, which would include overseeing municipal public works, parks and recreation operations, water and wastewater, and some development. The right candidate will have leadership skills in organization, planning, supervision, problem-solving, public relations, and financial management. The hours of work are 40 hours per week; and (when required), to be on Stand By and perform tests and readings on weekends within the plant on a rotational basis.

Qualifications required:

  • Level 2 Alberta Environment Certificate in Water Treatment
  • Level 1 Alberta Environment Certificate in Sewage Treatment
  • Level 1 Alberta Environment Certificate in Water Distribution
  • Level 1 Alberta Environment Certificate in Sewage Distribution
  • Willingness to attain Level 2
  • Advanced experience with hand and mechanical tools
  • Advanced experience and operation of light/heavy equipment in relation to various facility equipment (including motor grader, loader/backhoe, street sweeper, etc.)
  • Knowledge of municipal infrastructure systems
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Operators permit
  • Standard First Aid/CPR certificate
  • WHMIS/TDG certification
  • Equipment and trenching safety
  • Confined Space Entry
  • Education minimum Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Basic knowledge of computer programs/applications
  • Minimum of five years related management experience in the public works field
  • Knowledge of current municipal engineering practices and fleet operation
  • Effective organizational, analytical, oral and written skills
  • Strong management and interpersonal skills with the ability to use tact, diplomacy and mature judgement
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work assignments of self and staff, provide effective supervision, delegate authority and responsibility, instruct/teach; and schedule and program work on short and long term basis.
